چکیده

Abstract Introduction Frostbite in children is very rare with few citations the literature. Thrombolytic therapy commonly used to salvage threatened tissue frostbitten adults, but there little no data on use of such children. The aim this case series advance our understanding pediatric frostbite by describing risk factors and outcomes, as well commenting safety thrombolytic population. To knowledge, has not been studied children, largest date. Methods This a retrospective, single-center study reviewing cases (< 14 years) from 2006-2022. Thirteen patients (6 males 7 females) were found fit inclusion criteria, was collected electronic medical record. Results A total thirteen reviewed. Nine managed conservatively diligent local wound cares, while four prescribed an attempt at salvage. Two underwent intravenous therapy, two intra-arterial therapy; complications either group. We also reviewed patient demographics. Thirty-eight percent documented Black or African American, 23% Asian, Caucasian, 8% Hispanic Latino. remainder unlisted. Notably, 31% had trouble communication (whether foreign speaking non-verbal). None positive EtOH urine drug screen. All poorly supervised when occurred. Outcomes follows: 69% completely healed upon follow up, severe injury arrival significant loss likely requiring amputation (but did return for up), never followed up. Conclusions thrombolytics treatment appears be safe have that population include inability communicate poor supervision time injury. Applicability Research Practice able safely treat presenting therapy. work highly applicable practice. Specifically, ability administer nearly ubiquitous. can done referring hospitals if are issues inclement weather transportation would delay transfer verified burn center.

Use of Intra-arterial Thrombolytic Therapy for Acute Treatment of Frostbite in 62 Patients with Review of Thrombolytic Therapy in Frostbite

Amputations are common after severe frostbite injuries, often mediated by postinjury arterial thrombosis. Since 1994, the authors have performed angiography to identify perfusion deficits in severely frostbitten digits and treated these lesions with intraarterial infusion of thrombolytic agents, usually combined with papaverine to reduce vasospasm. A retrospective review was performed of patien...
